Dundee University's Swimming and Waterpolo club has something to offer for everyone, whether your goal is to swim for GB at the Bejing Olympics or just to make new friends whilst staying fit and healthy. We have 2 swimming and 2 waterpolo sessions a week, with excellent coaching for both sports. As well as being a successful competitive club, we are also extremely social, with almost as many sessions in the pub as in the pool.
Both sports compete against other uni’s in league matches, as well as other events such as the Stirling Sprint Championships and BUSA championships. Last year, we had swimmers competing at national and international level, winning several medals along the way, including a Commonwealth bronze by Ross Clark for his role in the Scotland's IM relay team earlier on this year in the Melbourne Commonwealth Games. Our ladies waterpolo team was also extremely successful, winning virtually every game they played, which resulted in Helen McKevit, Nicola Baird and Karen Rigby all being picked for the Scottish University Ladies Team for the Celtic Nations tournament. On the social side, we've also thrived. We have many events in our busy calendar, including pub crawls, fundraising events, the Christmas dinner, BBQs, and last year for the first time, we went away for a weekend to the scenic Glencoe. After training and matches, most of the club can be found in our sponsor pub "Tally's" enjoying a well deserved pint and the odd free sandwich or two!
Our aim is to invite and include as many people as possible into club life whilst building upon the sporting and social successes of previous years. We have a handful of elite athletes who train extremely hard and earn great successes, but don't let this intimidate you. The vast majority of our members are just keen enthusiasts who enjoy the great atmosphere that has developed in the club. Whether you are Thorpedo wannabe or just a social splasher, you are guaranteed to have an awesome time in this club, the banter is fantastic... just ask one of our current members at the stall!
