DURC is here to aid and abet members of Dundee University in getting out to the countryside and mountains of Scotland, the UK and maybe even, the world. We are a group of likeminded individuals who enjoy everything from valley walks (especially when hungover) to munro bagging, rock, and ice climbing. We run a trip every weekend during term-time alternating between day trips and weekend trips where we stay in remote mountain huts.
The club has an active social scene so even if you're not away on a club trip you'll probably find a house party going on somewhere. Never done this sort of thing before? We as a club all started off somewhere and many of us gained our initial experience with DURC. All you'll need is a pair of boots and some enthusiam for the outdoors and you can borrow most other kit from the club itself.
We will be running free talks on navigation, first aid and avalanche safety, so you will have ample opportunity to improve your knowledge and outdoor skills. For the climbers Dundee hosts an excellent indoor facility a stones throw from campus. We will be arranging an introduction to climbing evening and have weekly sessions in the week. In addition, when the weather is suitable, you’ll usually find a few of us heading out to some nearby crags.
The Rucksack club also has a very active social element, with weekly pub visits to sign up for meets, the Autumn Ceilidh, Christmas dinner and Burn's Supper preceding the renowned Annual Dinner. As the Rucksack club enters its 83rd year, we hope you will join us to have some fun and see where your sense of adventure can take you.....
