If you want to improve your fitness, flexibility and confidence in a friendly and relaxed atmosphere, we’re the club for you!!
Whether you’re a complete beginner or a seasoned competition pro we’ll make sure that your needs are met. We cater for all abilities and all aspects of karate from traditional to sport. Our club came 3rd in the Scottish University Championship (SUS) and several of our members have won medals at novice and senior level at the BUSA Karate Championships. In 2006 we were named the Most Progressive Club, so come join and help us become even bigger! We are a member of the SKA (Scottish Karate Association) the longest running Karate association in Scotland. The SKA is ratified by the SKGB (Scottish Karate Governing Body), the only governing body for Karate in Scotland.
Our Karate training is led by Sensei Jim Kidd (7th Dan) and Sensei Iain Rennie (5th Dan). Jim was one of the first Karate practitioners in Scotland to receive a Black Belt, having trained directly under Sensei Nakayama and Sensei Kanazawa, students of the legendary Funakoshi. Jim fought for the Scottish national squad in the 1970’s all over the world. He was a member of the first Scottish Karate Team to win the European Championships and continued his competitive career right through to 2002. Iain earned his Black Belt in 1989 and has represented the SKA in National and International Competitions. As a Member of the Territorial Army, Iain has competed in Karate events within the armed forces and won numerous trophies at both fighting and weapons Kata.
So come and speak to us at the Sports Fayre and come along to one of our classes – first class is free!
