The Men’s Basketball club compete in both the Scottish Universities and Tayside and Fife league competitions. After a relatively disappointing season last year we are hoping an influx of enthusiastic rookies coupled with experienced players will help the club achieve its potential. The team is ambitions, but promotion to the Scottish Universities top division is a realistic objective.

The three sessions will be divided into skills, fitness and team training. We hope to encourage beginners who have always wanted to try basketball to come along to our skills sessions. They offer the chance to learn from experienced players who are happy to demonstrate and teach the basics that are important in the game. If you’re feeling up to it, our fitness sessions are open to anyone.

Although the team is focussed on succeeding in all competitions we also arrange many nights out over the course of the year. Our dedicated social conveners work tirelessly to come up with original ideas that get the whole team out. This year’s big successes were pink t-shirt night and the agm / basketball kit night. Currently the local pub, the Ascot Bar, sponsors the team and ensures our nights out are well stocked.

I would encourage freshers to give basketball a try. It’s a great opportunity to meet new people and to get involved at university. We have a good mix of students from a variety of courses that train and socialise together throughout the year. Whether you are an experienced player or just staring out, we have a range of abilities so everyone is welcome.
